Whenever possible, respiratory hazards or any other safety or health hazard should be engineered out of the work environment. The safest environment is a hazard free one. If it is not possible to eliminate or reduce the hazard, properly chosen respirators can be an effective way to reduce employee exposures to toxic materials.
